My Project

The ride concept I developed is called Yzma's Secret Lab, which takes guests on a thrilling tracked roller coaster inspired by an iconic scene from the Emperor’s New Groove. The idea behind the ride is to discover where the ‘wrong lever’ leads after Kronk, Yzma’s henchman, accidentally activates an incorrect switch that takes the guests on a roundabout journey to Yzma’s secret lab instead of directly there. The coaster will traverse through similar settings and obstacles related to the movie scene, such as a downward spiral and guard alligators. The queue for the ride will have guests travel through Kuzco’s palace, where the exit for the ride is Yzma’s secret lab. The design of the coaster imitates the one that the characters in the movie take to Yzma’s secret lab as well.

One of the main characters portrayed in the ride is the titular Yzma, who is the main antagonist in the Emperor’s New Groove. She is the royal advisor to the young emperor Kuzco, who plots to kill him and takeover Kuzco’s domain as empress. Yzma is consistently clever, vain, eccentric, and confident. She is usually accompanied by her henchman Kronk, and both of them frequent her hidden, underground laboratory where they devise a plan to eliminate Kuzco with poison there.

While Yzma’s Secret Lab is meant to be a thrilling reference to the iconic movie scene, there are still values that can be taken away from the ride. Through the two characters’ dialogue to the guests and the integral part of Kronk accidentally pulling the wrong lever, riders can playfully understand the imaginary that being organized makes life easier and less stressful.
