Our Project
The goal of this project is aimed at improving campus safety by informing students of crimes that had already occurred through a daily crime log and real time notifications for new crimes that are entered into the system. During our research phase, through forms of secondary research, we found that other universities take more precautions on crimes such as self-defense courses and safety courses for its students but we thought that this would not fit IUB the best. Then, through our primary research, we found that students would value real time notifications and information as soon as possible from the IUPD to ensure that they can adapt appropriately to that information. We designed a phone app that contains three modules: Daily Crime Log for information awareness and student adaptability, Emergency Services for an additional way of contacting Emergency through the app and acts as a integration of the Blue Light Emergency Machines, and App Settings for general app settings. In our evaluations, we went through with a Heuristic Method and we mostly valued consistency and error prevention. In an app of our purpose, error prevention is key as we do not want to waste time and want to ensure time is of the essence and everything connects properly and all the tabs connect consistently. We found a few ways of improving our prototype through forms of: more solid coloring to ensure readability, changing the in app emergency system to use local system phone app, and additionally changing the on/off sliders to be a iOS interactive slider.
LinkBig Points
- Our app is used to find what crimes has occurred for the day.
- Our app is used to send real-time notifications to users on the IUB Campus for crimes.
- Our app is made for another potential avenue of contacting Emergency.
- Our app is used to customize itself to the user's style.
