Our Project
The goal of our project is to deliver an easy way to communicate IU and Bloomington bus information to students in order to make uncertainties about the bus less stressful and more predictable. In our research, we found that many students could not tell if a bus was full, out of service, or on break, so it caused immense worry for students who rely on using the bus to get from their off campus apartments to class. It was also difficult for students to use and navigate current bus apps such as DoubleMaps. In our app design, we made pages for bus announcements so that quick changes are communicated, along with a page that displays the bus hours. The main map screen uses live bus tracking starting with no routes on the screen to allow customization for routes instead of all of them appearing at once. Through evaluations, we learned that the maximum capacity visual on the needs to be emphasized so that students can easily tell when that bus is not available. We also found out that the text was hard to read, so we increased the font size, changed the font style, and making the color combinations easier to read on. From there, it was easy for users to navigate through the app and enjoyed the accessibility of bus information. The final updates for our app include changing the selection shape and increasing the bus hours text.
