CyberSafe

We observed through interviews that many people do not understand the importance of cybersecurity and being safe on the internet. We created a prototype of a mobile application that has the ability to inform users on cybersecurity, has a VPN to maintain safety online, and other safety features. Our two main goals is to help users be more protected and also inform users on internet safety.

Our Project

The overall aim of our project is to help protect users from cybersecurity issues and to inform people about these issues. In our research we found that most people know little to nothing about cybersecurity issues and do not use caution when using the internet. There was a small percentage of people that do know how to protect themselves from these issues. We designed an app called CyberSafe that has a VPN, AD blocker, a way to have automatic connection, and a resources page. The VPN and AD blocker are ways that users are able to protect themselves online and the resources page has a lot of information about VPNs, the AD blocker, trusted networks, and the value of security. In evaluations we had several different users try to complete tasks we gave them using our prototype. These tasks included connect to the VPN, check the status of the network, and do a speed test. From this we realized that it was difficult to get back to previous pages and that there was no home page. So, we added an easily accessible home page, added functionality to the rest of the app and not just the first couple of screens, and added some aesthetic changes.
