Our Project
The aim of our project was to keep students on task and focused while they are studying in order to help them efficiently get their assignments done. After completing various types of research including observations, interviews, and secondary research, we discovered that a vast majority of students struggle to stay on task. During observations, students would stop their work to check their phones numerous times in a 30-minute window, and many students even admitted to have a small attention span during interviews. After compiling all of our research, our team designed Study Helper to help students limit distractions and stay focused on their work. The app includes a timer for users to set a certain amount of time for work, and a certain amount of time for a break. There are also various settings for users to customize to help limit distractions such as silencing notifications, and locking yourself out of distracting apps while the study timer is running. During evaluations, we listened to what our peers had to say in regards to our design. We took their helpful feedback and used it to better the design and functionality of our application. We were able to improve and iterate on our prototypes by switching certain color schemes, limited white space whenever possible, and changing the design to make it neat, professional, and pleasing to the eye.
