Wastehelper

We created Wastehelper to combat the massive amounts of waste into landfills. Wastehelper can motivate you to recycle and compost, as well as motivate the you to continue doing so. It also keeps track of when you need to take our your garbage, recycling, and compost.

Our Project

With this link, you can test out our prototype for yourself and see all that the WasteHelper app has to offer. The app features several screens where you can find information about recycling and composting. The first screen is impact, where you can see news articles and statistics related to what your waste management is doing to help the environment, your community, and more. Next is the CompostNow tab. This tab itself was a prototype that we came up with early in the development, which we implemented into our app later. With only your zipcode, this tab can help you figure out where compost can be dropped off in your city. It shows you pins, and you can select a pin to view more detail about the drop-off. Next is the compost tab. The compost tab contains all the quick information of how to compost, as well as a list of what is and is not recyclable. Next is the recycling tab, which contains quick information of how to recycle, including frequently needed information like RIC codes. Finally, the last tab is the Calendar tab. The calendar tab allows you to have a visual calendar that can keep track of which days the trash and recycling are picked up, as well as when it guesses you might need to empty your compost. This makes it easier to keep track of everything so that your waste management is not overwhelming.
