Our Project
The idea for our project comes from a problem that many students and faculty face. There is not enough parking on campus for everyone, and it is often confusing where and when you are able to park in different spots while having different permits. We designed this project as an aide to the current problem. Using our app, users can view available spaces in parking lots in real-time.
By conducting primary and secondary research, we were able to formulate a clearer plan for this project. Every person we talked to said that they had issues parking on campus, and some said that they actively avoid driving to campus, and some had been late for classes while searching for an available spot. We decided to design an app that would help with this process, and that it wouldn't be something exclusively used by students, faculty could also make use of it.
In the IU Parking Helper app, users can also reserve spots up to 10 minutes in advance, with the option to extend this reservation. Once the user gets to the reserved spot, they will notify the app that they have parked, and go conduct their business. When they come back, they can tell the app that they are leaving the spot, opening it up for others to view and reserve on the app. We hope that this simple process can help the struggle of finding available parking spots on campus.
