Napalm Ethics

Howard Zinn's Thou Shalt Not Kill is a forceful condemnation of violence, war, and institutionalized oppression. This book challenges the ethical justification of state violence and explores the ethical nuances of war and justice. Grounded in pacifist and humanist philosophical bases, Zinn's book calls for reevaluating social values on ethical grounds, the value of nonviolence.

My Project

Howard Zinn's Thou Shalt Not Kill questions the morality of war and institutional violence in a humanist context. From pacifist ethics, Zinn believes that violence whether state or individual is self-reinforcing and leads to cycles of oppression and injustice. His argument is in line with deontological ethics, particularly Kant's formula that morality has to be universal and categorical. For Zinn, killing is inherently wrong regardless of justification.
