Medicine vs. Man

In this booth, I will be diving into the idea of Medicine vs. Man, and how the topics explored in De Humani Corporis fabrica relate to the Ethical Theory of Utilitarianism. Author Andreas Vesalius committed heinous acts in order to produce this text, which was created in order to inform more people about the functions of the human body, with many depictions muscular and skeletal systems. In this text, he details many examples of the inside of the human body, however these discoveries were mostly made by grave robbing or stripping the skin off of already dead people.

My Project

The ethical theory that I want to highlight is Utilitarianism, as the purpose of this item is to educate those on the human body and provide detailed, vivid images about a previously unknown topic, raising the question of whether the research that Vesalius provided makes up for the heinous acts that he committed getting this information, as well as If he had never done so, then who would someone have?
