Our Project
At Indiana University, significant food waste generated by the "All You Care To Eat" (AYCTE) meal system poses a challenge to sustainability efforts. SustainaBite tackles this issue head-on by integrating a gamified information system that transforms how students interact with their dining habits. This innovative approach not only seeks to reduce waste but also aims to shift campus culture towards more sustainable practices.
Developed from comprehensive research and observations in IU dining halls, SustainaBite utilizes a relational database to facilitate real-time tracking and visualization of food consumption and waste. By providing immediate feedback on environmental impacts, the system empowers students to recognize and modify their behaviors, encouraging more conscious dining decisions.
SustainaBite is designed to make sustainability an engaging part of daily life. Through its unique blend of technology and gamification, the platform motivates students to actively participate in waste reduction. The project’s success hinges on its ability to make sustainable choices rewarding and socially engaging, thereby fostering a community committed to environmental stewardship.
As SustainaBite continues to evolve and expand its reach, it remains focused on strengthening its technological foundations and enhancing user experience. Our goal is to establish lasting habits that significantly reduce food waste and promote a culture of responsibility and environmental awareness across the campus. By integrating sustainability into everyday actions, SustainaBite contributes to a broader cultural shift towards a more sustainable future at Indiana University.
