Our Project
ThriveFinance is a web-based financial literacy platform developed by a four-person team as part of the Informatics Capstone at Indiana University’s Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering. Designed with Generation Z students and young adults in mind, the platform makes learning about personal finance engaging and rewarding by combining structured educational content with interactive tools and gamified progression systems. The platform features a modular lesson system that guides users through core financial topics in a sequenced, locked progression, ensuring foundational concepts are mastered before advancing. A gamification system reinforces learning through XP rewards, achievement tracking, and visual progress indicators. Complementing the core curriculum are a budget management tool with data visualization, a study hub with flashcards, a journal reflection feature, a user profile and settings page, and a comprehensive progress tracking dashboard.
Developed over two semesters with a strong emphasis on collaboration, iteration, and continuous improvement, the team regularly incorporated feedback from outside user testing sessions to refine and elevate the overall experience. Those sessions drove meaningful improvements, including clearer navigation, tighter integration between features, and a more cohesive and intuitive flow throughout the site. Real users interacting with the platform for the first time helped the team identify friction points and validate that the learning experience held up without any guidance. ThriveFinance ultimately delivers on its core mission, creating a centralized and accessible space where young adults can build real financial skills and actually enjoy the process.
