Mental Health

It is known that students with ADHD tend to face more problems in school compared to their non-ADHD peers. Therefore, we need to adapt to meet the increasing needs of ADHD students in a growing technological environment. This is why our group chose to build a website that helps increase “educational success” (grades/knowledge) for these students in a chosen subject. Additionally, our website will be AI generated based on “initial surveys” which allows for users to customize their experience and accommodations. During the final stages of our website development, we continue to look back at primary/secondary research and critical/user feedback.

Our Project

While building the interfaces of our website, "Purpose", we repeatedly took into account the original four solution ideas identified from the secondary research. These ideas included a well-organized website layout, limited distractions, primary research-based features (ex: text-to-speech), and scheduling features (calendars/reminders). All these solutions ideas would be solved by having the website be AI generated based off of the "initial surveys." These surveys are takin when a student first signs up for "Purpose."

Along with including these solution ideas, changes to the interfaces have been made throughout the design process. Recent changes made from peer and AI critique feedback include having better use of an UI kit, making icons more recognizable, separation between dropdown menus, bigger navigation bar, and an overall website title, which we now call "Purpose."

As we move into the final stages of the design process, the team is preforming user studies. Feedback from these studies will be used to farther advance our interfaces. Some examples include adding missing buttons, fixing any identified bugs, clear instructions/description on the interfaces (mockup), fixing navbar by including labeling, and including assignments on the calendar page.

Big Points

  • Overall, "Purpose" is an AI generated website dedicated to making education accessible to ADHD students of all ages. If an ADHD student is struggling with a given subject and is looking for possible accommodations to get them back on track, our website would benefit them. Once a student creates an account and fills out the initial surveys, they will be able to complete a customized lesson plan which will ultimately enhance their understanding of a chosen subject and will lead to better grade results. A student would be able to use "Purpose" on any computer or phone (anything with internet access).
