Excessive Food Waste and Hunger

FoodLink is an app that fosters connections between restaurants, grocery stores, communities and local food banks by simplifying the donation process and working to reducing food waste. The minimalist home screen, real-time location accuracy, and user reviews promote community engagement, while the user-friendly contact pages and UI kits improve the app's visual appeal. The app facilitates connections by providing logistical support and creating easily readable options to donate excess food or recycle accordingly. Food banks are able to track and manage donations received through the app and we believe this app will make a difference.

Big Points

  • Food waste is a big problem with serious environmental and social consequences. It causes greenhouse gas emissions, water consumption, and deforestation, worsening climate change. It also contributes to hunger, affecting 811 million people globally. However, the food industry can help by redirecting edible food to those in need. Our hometown of Bloomington inspired us to make a difference and we're confident that our app can extend that impact nationwide.
