Food Insecurity

We created an app called foodLink to help connect Restaurants and Grocery Stores with local Food Banks in the area. foodLink will allow for easier connection, helping reduce food waste and insecurity in Bloomington. It also helps to decrease the stigma surrounding donating to Food Banks by keeping Food Bank representatives accountable for the donations they receive. This app offers three different interfaces depending on the type of stakeholder using our app. All interfaces have access to the same features but have an emphasis on different uses of the app depending on what feature is most relevant to their account.

Our Project

We began this project with the intention to bring awareness and help with technology to an underrepresented group of people in STEM. The ongoing issue of food insecurity spiked all four of interests, we began our project with just an idea, however as we worked through the semester we had four separate deliverables that were due at a specific deadline. The four deadlines was the way we formed our project, first with our design plan, next with our research and a rough draft, then our app development came in to place, and lastly user testing enabled us to develop an official and final version of our design. Four presentations, a poster, and by using the platform Figma we were able to create our goals.

The user has to create an account with our app in order to use our services.
The user has the option to select food bank manager, restaurant manager, and lastly grocery store manager that has a specific interface that is correlated with each stakeholder.
The user is able to schedule, organized, and execute services relating to food donation services.
Our app has the purpose of lowering the perishable items gone to waste due to the inability of a solid donation service platform in place.

Yashasvi will be graduating in May 2024 with a BS in Informatics and will continue her academic journey by pursuing an MS in Information Systems through the Kelley School of Business. With an interest in cloud security, she aspires to begin a career in IT architecture upon finishing her education.

Kameron Greenwald

Hello, Kameron Greenwald is a Senior majoring in Informatics at the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, with a cognate of human-centered computing at Indiana University. Prior to pursuing informatics, Kameron was a biology major with a minor in chemistry.

Sam Keane is currently a senior at Indiana University studying Informatics with a cognate in business. Along with that, he is also minoring in Finance, Sam brings a unique perspective with his background in business and technology that allows him to think outside the box.
