Normalizing Work From Home

ZenBreaks was created in light of the types of work delivery that emerged from Covid-19. Remote work became the new "norm" during these times and later be transitioned out off post pandemic. Our team wanted to create a platform that allowed working from home to be seen as efficient as working in person. We want to help create a work environment for those that work from home who struggle with staying on task or want structure in their remote space. We created ZenBreaks to help normalize working from home.

Our Project

Our team interviewed people who work remote jobs and asked them to describe how their experiences with working from home. Using the feedback we received and other research, we created an extension called ZenBreaks. ZenBreaks is meant to keep you on task, minimize distractions, and keep you accountable to your team. There are three different screen options: Timer, Calendar, and Teams. The Timer option comes with 4 different options: Custom, Short Break, Long Break, Pomodoro. The Custom timer allows you to set any time you please. The default times for the long and short breaks are 15 minutes and 5 minutes, but the times can be changed under Custom. The Pomodoro is a timer in intervals. The Block Mode is also under the Timer option. This is where you can choose websites that could possibly distract you. The Calendar option comes with a to-do list than you can edit for each day. If you want to see old tasks, you can click on a day in the calendar and it will show you the tasks for that day and the percentage of how much you got done. The Teams option is a way for a team to hold the members accountable. You can see how much of their to-do list a team member has done for the day. You can also see how well your team is doing compared to other teams. You will get notifications when someone starts and stops a timer. If you are inactive on your computer for a certain amount of time, you will get a notification encouraging you to get back to work. ZenBreaks is extremely helpful to those who have a hard time staying on task at home, live with distractions, or feel they need the pressure of accountability to produce their best work.
