Our Project
Throughout the semester, our team has worked on modernizing the existing Monroe County Fairgrounds website, which serves as an important source of information on the fairgrounds for the local community. The site's outdated design and usability issues have made it difficult for users to properly acquire the information they need while browsing the site. Our team's goal was to transform the website into a more user-friendly version, that prioritized streamlined navigation and ease of use. We conducted first hand research to find what exactly the site struggles with and what the client desires out of a new version of the site. This helped us find exactly what needed fixing in our updated iteration.
In our redesign, we worked to remove particularly difficult elements, such as the jumble of a navigation bar that was present on the original site. We also made sure that the elements present in our design would be significantly simpler than the original, as many of our interviews seemed to struggle with the current amount of information present on the home page of the original. We designed our updated site to have a much lower amount of information per page, and to follow a strict hierarchy of importance.
Overall, our design encompasses many of the core features of accessible and usable web design, which we believe will significantly improve the user enjoyment of the Monroe County Fairgrounds website. We made sure that our design utilized colors that pass color blindness and color contrast checks, used large and readable letters for maximum accessibility on mobile, and applied a simple and well organized navigation system. Between all of these changes, we believe we successfully improved the design of the website and we are excited to bring this design to life with SERVE IT next semester.
