Our Project
The goal of our project is to Encourage IU students to engage in healthy conversations about mental health with one another, and to utilize IU’s mental health resources. More specifically, our team created a social media app for students to anonymously chat about their experiences with mental health at IU. We aimed to create a comfortable environment for students to seek advice from fellow students who may also be struggling with mental health. UniTalk is also a way to find all of IU’s existing mental health resources.
For some context, we conducted interviews before deciding how we specifically wanted to make our app. Throughout these interviews, we found that most students are too afraid to speak up about their mental health struggles for the fear of judgement. This is why we created a random username generator so that students can remain anonymous, and hopefully the app will allow students to feel less alone about this sensitive subject. Since the targeted age demographic is largely dependent on social media, our team wanted to make the app feel like a normal social media that they can look to in their free time to normalize sharing their experiences and reaching out for help.
