This project is an imagining of a hypothetical ride/attraction from the Pokemon franchise that might appear at a theme park. The attraction takes inspiration from the core ideals of the series as well as aspects from the content that fans will recognize. The attraction specializes is interactivity and exploration with the audience and encourages multiple visits.

My Project

This particular ride is called the "Safari Zone." The goal for this ride is for users to experience an immersive experience in various climates where they are given the opportunity to virtually capture Pokemon they would be able to "store" and display in a companion app to the attraction. The ride starts with a short tutorial featuring this project's character - Pikachu. Users are told the basics of how to catch Pokemon, and then are taken through various scenes in which different Pokemon will be available to possibly catch. At the end of the ride, a powerful and notable Pokemon will appear at random and riders are given a shot to catch it.

There will be one human character with a short role in this ride, but the character I wanted to focus on was a Pokemon itself, as that is the main draw of the franchise. That character is Pikachu, the mascot of the series. This character serves as a tutorial teaching the user how to navigate and use the ride, and as a result they are the first Pokemon a user will catch.

The imaginary for this attraction is that understanding the world around you helps you learn more about how we all coexist. In this ride, the user is a researcher to observes many different Pokemon in their natural habitat. This includes scenes where Pokemon will interact with each other and with the riders.

Big Points

  • The ride is on a track system, moving between scenes where riders face and interact with a screen
  • 2160 people/hour
  • Ride Time: 4 minutes 11 seconds
  • Music would differentiate based on climate but would generally keep a calm and soothing tone. The last scene with the powerful Pokemon would be more upbeat and dramatic
  • Car capacity of 12 with a dispatch interval of 20 seconds
