Our Project
In the United States, a significant 35% of the national food supply is thrown away as food waste every year. This is not only a waste of important resources, but it also highlights the critical issue of food insecurity, which affects millions of Americans who struggle to get access to nutritious food. Our project utilizes technology to bridge this gap between surplus food and the people in our communities who need it, effectively connecting the two through our data-driven information system.
Our online platform is designed to simplify the food donation process, making it easier for donors to connect with local food pantries and charities. Through our intuitive interface, donors can easily report their food donations so that other users can efficiently locate and obtain these food items. The system includes a way to track inventory at each location in real-time, as well as providing directions to these locations through the use of Google Maps.

Bloomington PlateSavers Website Demo
This video is a brief walkthrough of the core features on our website. It starts by showing how a user will use their address to find local food donation spots near them. Next, it moves on to the profile page where the user can look at their previous donations, sign up for email notifications, and leave reviews for any location they have donated to previously. Then we move on to how the user would submit their food donation using the submission form. The final part is finding that donation on the inventory page.
